Osteoarthritis of the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb (CMC-1) causes functional instability of the joint at the base of the thumb as a result a weakening of the ligaments.

The Push Ortho CMC thumb brace has been designed with functionality in mind, it helps to stabilise the basal joint of the thumb and places the thumb in a functional position. The thumb brace will allow the user to both use the thumb unhindered and relieve pain in the localised area. 

It is ideal for sufferers of osteoarthritis.

How does it work?

The Push CMC stabilises the basal joint of the thumb (CMC-1) and places the thumb’s metacarpal (metacarpal 1) in a functional position. This creates a functional thumb arc, which remains stable while the hand is used. It relieves the pain when the thumb is under stress.

This method of stabilisation leaves the MCP-1 joint and the wrist free, to allow maximum functioning of the hand. For optimal performance, the aluminium core needs to fit closely to the thumb.

Care & Maintenance

• Before washing, close the Velcro to protect other laundry. 
  
• The brace can be washed at temperatures up to 40°C, on a delicate fabrics cycle or by hand. Do not use any bleaching agents. 
  
• A gentle spin-dry cycle can be used: afterwards, dry the brace naturally. (Do not dry it on a radiator or in a tumble drier). 
  
• To extend the brace’s service life, it should be dried after use, if necessary, before being stored
